Kishtwar: Department of Environmental Sciences and NSS Unit GDC Kishtwar have jointly organized 3 day-long celebrations of “World Environment Day-2022′ under the Aegis of ”Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” under the patronship Principal Prof. Anirudh Sharma and the convenorship of Prof. Mohd. Yaseen Sirwal. The 3-day long event was organised with an objective to motivate the students in particular and society, in general, to safeguard the environment and recycle and upcycle waste products and minimize the waste load in order to restore our Planet Earth.
On Day 1st, Plantation Drive in the college campus was carried out in which a large number of students and the faculty members of the college participated and planted fir and ornamental trees at various locations on the college campus. On Day 2nd, Campus Cleanliness drive was carried out and on Day 3rd, Seminar cum exhibition on “Best out of Waste” was displayed.
Principal of the college, Prof Anirudh Sharma in his speech motivated students to adopt clean and green habits and to contribute towards environmental protection so that we can live in harmony with the nature. Mr. Khalid Aminn Mehta (DFO, Kishtwar) was the chief guest of the event, he impressed upon the various measures to be taken to reduce Carbon footprint. He also made aware about various initiatives taken by Govt. of India to save environment & to increase forest cover. Mr. Sajjad Ahmad Najjar (President Municipal Council Kishtwar) was the guest of honour of todays event who laid stress upon people’s contribution especially students to spread the knowledge of environment conservation at community level. He also congratulated the college authorities for organising events like this.
Proceedings of the event were presented by Dr. Sehrish Gazal (HOD Env. Sc. Department) and formal welcome address was given by Prof. Sonika Sen (Programme Officer, NSS). Students actively participated in the event and made fantastic and usable items like wall decorations, dust pins, pen stands, storage boxes and decorative items by recycling and upcycling waste material like old newspaper, cardboard, old CD, plastic bottles, bulbs. Prof. Sarita Parihar, Prof Swami Raj, Prof. Romana Akthar and Prof Sonika Sen Adjudged the event.Miss Aditi Sharma, Mr. Asif Hussain and Aisha Kousar bagged first, second and third position respectively in the seminar. In best out of waste exhibition first prize was bagged by Miss Aditi Sharma and second and third prize by miss Archana Sen and Miss Salma Akthar respectively. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Romana Akhtar. The event culminated successfully and was highly appreciated by the students in general and educationalists in particular.
